Airmanship is the consistent use of good judgment, technical skill, situational awareness, and safety discipline in aviation. To begin flight training, there are no age minimums to take lessons! However, you must be at least 16 years old to solo and at least 17 years old to earn your Private Pilot Certificate. You must also hold a valid government-issued photo ID, obtain an FAA Medical Certificate, and be able to read, speak, and understand the English language. Both FAA Part 61 and Part 141 programs hold students to the exact same FAA Airman Certification Standards (ACS) checkride requirements. Part 61 offers maximum scheduling flexibility, allowing you to tailor lesson pacing around your work and family commitments. Part 141 features a rigid, FAA-audited syllabus structure often utilized in university degree programs. Pitcairn provides high-quality Part 61 training tailored to your individual schedule.

No. You do not need perfect uncorrected vision; your vision simply needs to be correctable to 20/20 with glasses or contact lenses for commercial privileges, or 20/40 for private pilot privileges. An Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) will evaluate your general health during a routine medical exam.
